Stiekem feestje?!
Stel je voor: je favoriete feestje mag niet doorgaan…
Geen slingers, geen muziek, geen verkleedpartijen.
Wat zou jij doen? Zou je dan stiekem toch een
feestje geven? Gewoon met je beste vrienden,
ergens waar niemand het ziet?
In Tilburg was carnaval vroeger (tussen 1857 en
1965) verboden, maar mensen vierden het tóch.
In het geheim, zachtjes zingend en dansend.
Spannend hè? Want soms is iets verboden… en juist
daardoor extra bijzonder!
Where’s the party?
Between 1857 and 1965, the Catholic Church banned the celebration in Tilburg. But that didn’t
stop its people from celebrating. The party continued behind closed doors, still filled with
music, dancing, and above all: joy. Though the tradition lived on in smaller, close-knit circles
rather than out in the streets, Carnival was celebrated together. Police patrolled the streets in
search of revellers, which only added to the thrill – turning the celebration into a quiet act of
rebellion and a tribute to unity. Nowadays, Tilburg once again thrives with vibrant colours and
festive energy.
